National Handwriting Day

Everyone should take advantage of being unplugged and handwrite a letter and or card and send to someone.  Growing up in the 80’s writing was enjoyable and allowed you to put sentiments on paper to show your concern for someone.  Unexpected mail from someone was a sure way to brighten a day and those letters/cards were saved forever.

I believing handwriting allows you write better at times and brings out more creativity.  At times, communication is more clear and you rarely have a chance to leave anything out versus “talking” over text.

Handwritten words on the page held value.  Most of the time, something composed by computer has been edited several times and can lose its true meaning.

It is frustrating to me knowing that cursive writing serves no purpose in this country in the near future.  Your signature was your commitment to a deal.  It confirms who you are and reveals many things about your personality.

People should incorporate handwriting into their lives by taking time to appreciate all that it offers.  The US Post Office will soon go out of business thanks to technology.  E-cards replace birthday, graduation, birth announcements and so many other joyous occasions that we like to share with loved ones.  Bills are paid online and stamp sales are declining rapidly.  We have eliminated something so important all in the name of technology for convenience.

Handwriting has downfalls as well.  Some people have terrible penmanship and thanks to technology, many cannot write complete sentences.  The more we rely on technology as a writing tool, the more grammatical errors we will develop.
